Ongoing Community Projects
Jill Treppa has been part of our Peninsula Girl Scout community for a long time. She has graciously taken charge in collecting items for several perpetual community projects. This is a continuous collection that she has facilitated for years. Jill’s help makes it easy for your troop to participate in supporting any of these community needs.
Bring any of the following items to Jill at our Service Unit meeting. You can also email treppaj@cox.net or call/text 619-756-2399 to arrange for pickup/drop off within the Peninsula.
Eye Glass collection for the Lions Club
Refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions living in low and middle income countries lack access to basic eye care services. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses in their communities to support the Lions Recycle For Sight Program.
Egg Cartons for Special Delivery food pantry
Special Delivery San Diego uses the egg cartons to repackage eggs from bulk for their clients. Special Delivery provides food to homebound people with medical needs.
Aluminum pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego will recycle them for cash. Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama has a Ronald McDonald House Patch to earn. Our local Ronald McDonald House is at 2929 Children’s Way, San Diego, CA 92123 Phone: 858-467-4750
Project Wildlife
Large plastic jar lids will be used as food dishes for Project Wildlife of the San Diego Humane Society. Project Wildlife rehabilitates injured and orphaned animals.
Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry
Travel size hygiene products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.) for distribution by Loaves and Fishes. Loaves and Fishes is a food pantry operating out of the Waters Edge Church in Ocean Beach and they are part of Feeding San Diego.
Water’s Edge Church Depository
Blessing Box located on Water’s Edge Church property in Ocean Beach. 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Donate unwanted/unneeded items directly to box. Food, clothing, shoes, small household items, school supplies, books. Open to anyone needing the items that are donated.
